A series-connected resistor that limits inrush, fault or discharge current to a value the associated equipment can safely withstand, for example in capacitor bank pre-insertion, motor starting or fault-current limiting duties. Elements are stainless steel grid or wire-wound resistors selected for the required resistance value and short-time thermal withstand. Used in MV switchgear, capacitor bank switching schemes and motor control installations.
